How a Small Workroom Brings your Vision to Life More Accurately

Translate sketches into finished pieces

I love when a designer sends me a sketch or inspiration photo of the look they want. I am here to translate those sketches and photos into a real-life finished pillows, cushions, and window treatments. Sometimes translating a sketch into a work order can be tricky. Do you really want standard bottom and side hems on a cafe curtain? (Hint: the answer is most definitely not.) Do you have a specific-sized space to fill with pillows? Will it take 3 20x20s or should you do 22x22s? Should the seat foam be 3” or 4”?

With a small workroom like Cozy Giraffe, you do not have guess on these numbers or details. You are not on your own to fill out the work order. We can do it together using my experience as a fabricator to ensure you will get what you envision.

All along the way I will contact you to discuss any questions or issues I run into while in-process that could jeopardize the look of the final installation, including things like pattern placement or function.

Make technical suggestions to improve execution

I am here to help you improve the end-result before the project even begins. I can help with stackback questions and ensure the rod size is correct. I can help with fabric selection to ensure the fabric content will result in a window treatment that drapes the way you expect. I will make sure the inserts we use are appropriate for the application. And of course I am here to help in hardware selection. I can walk you through different options, including motorization. And, even as a small workroom, I have agreements with most hardware companies. I don’t just use a few select brands of hardware. Sure I have my favorites, but if you need a shade to have a specific projection or function, I can select the best brand for the job. Let’s not use a large tube if the window is only 2” deep, a spring system that won’t lift the weight of the shade you have planned, or a lift cord system in a child’s room.

You pick the pleat style you want. This is just a sample of some different options.

Fabrication advice that enhances your concept

The last thing you want is for a fabric that is beautiful as a swatch, to look less-than-great once it’s manipulated. We can select linings together and determine if the fabric you select needs to be stabilized or if we need to use interlining or weights to really get the look you’re after.

When you choose a small workroom, you are not alone in deciding how fabrication should be done to ensure a great end-product. One process does not fit all fabrics and jobs. With a small workroom, you can be assured that the fabrication process will best fit the fabric you selected and the plan you have for it. You’re not relying on a standard process or the advice of a customer service rep who has little experience fabricating.

We can discuss the placement of the pattern on a pillow, trim on a lead edge, or whether pleating to pattern is important and how that will affect yardage requirements. And, because you are communicating directly with the person who is doing the fabrication, there are no gaps for miscommunication.

Collaboration without compromise

I am here for you all along the way. I will help ensure the vision you have is brought to reality in the best way possible. There is no more guessing or hoping you filled out the work order right or if the best method is used for the finished product you really envision. Plus once we’ve worked on our first project together, you are not just a number or sidemark. You are a big fish in a smaller pond, which means you’ll get the individualized attention you deserve. If you are ready to discuss your next project, I’d love to sit down to collaborate on a work order so I can give you an accurate estimate. Email me anytime.
